Making Time For You: A Reminder To Focus On Self-Care

By Jocephus Bingham Sr.

Life can be hectic. We often juggle work, family, and social duties. In all this, we may forget to take care of ourselves. Yet, neglecting self-care can have serious consequences, such as burnout and decreased productivity. Taking care of ourselves is not a luxury but a necessity. It’s essential to our survival, like food and water.

Consider Olympic athletes. They focus on self-care to reach their best performance. They know that caring for their physical and mental health is key to their success. In our daily lives, pausing for a few moments each day can help. Deep breaths and focusing on our needs can boost our health and happiness.

Picture yourself as a tree. You give shade and shelter to others. But you rarely nourish your roots. In the end, you will wither away, lacking the ability to provide for others. That’s what happens when we neglect self-care. When we focus on our own needs, we aren’t selfish. Instead, we grow stronger and better. This helps us provide better support to others.

Take a moment today to pause, take a deep breath, and concentrate on yourself. Take a walk, practice meditation, or sit in silence. Self-care isn’t a luxury; it’s a must. It’s key to a happy, healthy, and fulfilling life.

Schedule “me time” on your calendar like any other necessary appointment.

Nourish your soul by doing something you love. You might read a book, walk in nature, or enjoy a cup of tea.

Practice mindfulness or meditation to center yourself and reduce stress.

Explore your creativity through art, music, or writing.

Exercise to boost your energy and mood

When you take care of yourself, you can better care for others. This helps you face life’s challenges with fresh energy. You deserve this time.
